The Krohn Conservatory, a crown jewel of Eden Park, has been a beloved Cincinnati institution since its opening in 1933. While the monumental glass and aluminum structure is certainly impressive from the outside, it’s what’s inside that you really must see to believe. You’d have to travel far from Cincinnati to visit a rainforest with a waterfall or a cactus-filled desert. Just step inside the Krohn Conservatory and you can explore both! With over 3,500 plant species from around the world, it’s no surprise that Krohn Conservatory’s collection is nationally recognized.
Krohn changes throughout the year with special exhibits and programs, including the ever-popular Butterfly Show, where thousands of butterflies are free to fly throughout the show room in a specially-themed garden. The Butterfly Show takes place in the spring and summer months. However, fall is truly one of the best times of the year to visit and take advantage of smaller crowds and pleasant weather.
Currently on display at Krohn Conservatory is the annual fall show. This show, “Grass Roots: Art of Nature” features cheerful marigolds, striking cannas, vibrant impatiens, and rich asters saturated in gorgeous fall colors. Walk the Fibonacci labyrinth and admire the radiant array of chrysanthemums, as painted by Monet. Stroll by the cypress trees of Van Gogh, the roses of Dali, as well as the amazing botanical architecture made by the local company, Applied Imagination. This exhibit beautifully illustrates how these artists’ eclectic styles are united by the influence of nature. The show runs through October 29.
If the weather is cooperative, take advantage of the many walking paths that crisscross Eden Park. For unparalleled views of the river, you cannot miss Eden Park’s scenic overlooks. A short distance from Krohn Conservatory is the overlook at Twin Lakes, located just east of the conservatory on Eden Park Drive. Up the hill on Cliff Drive is the Spencer Overlook. If you’ve always dreamed of owning your own home with similarly spectacular views, we are currently offering two luxury condominiums at St. James in the Park, located at 2121 Alpine Place.
